It was in Montgueux, on the outskirts of Troyes, that Étienne Doué and his wife Bénédicte founded their wine-growing business as independent producers. Coming from a farming background, Étienne developed a passion for winegrowing at an early age. After completing his theoretical training, he gained experience working for several renowned wine producers, while also developing his own business.
The first plantation was established in 1972, followed by the first harvest in 1976, producing an initial run of 1,831 bottles, which were marketed from 1979 under the Champagne Étienne Doué brand.
In 1987, the house joined the Vignerons Indépendants de France, faithful to the philosophy of a profession based on autonomy and respect for the terroir. Over the years, the estate has expanded to 6.5 hectares, enhanced by sustainable viticulture and a constant quest for quality in the production of its cuvées.
This commitment is supported by the advice of experienced oenologists and viticultural technicians, as well as the involvement of Jean-François, Étienne’s son, who provides invaluable assistance in both the vineyard and the cellar.
In 2008, Virginie Doué, Étienne’s daughter, joined the family business. She is responsible for sales and customer relations, while also actively participating in the work in the vineyard and the cellar.
Today, this family-run business on a human scale continues to grow thanks to a close-knit and passionate team, driven by the same vision: to produce authentic champagnes that reflect the soul of the Montgueux terroir.
